Something not right with your bike?
You don't need to know the name of the part. Find what your bike is doing below and you'll see what it takes to fix and what it costs.
My brakes squeal, feel soft or rub the wheel
Squealing is usually contamination or alignment, and a lever that pulls to the bar on a hydraulic bike needs bleeding. We adjust, realign or bleed, and replace pads that are worn through.
Brake adjustment from $16.50 · pads $27.50 · hydraulic bleed $82.50
My gears skip, grind or won't shift
Cables stretch and derailleurs drift out of alignment with use. We re-index the gears, check the hanger and cable, and replace the cable or housing if it is the cause.
Gear adjustment $49.50, about 30 minutes
I have a flat tyre or a slow puncture
We replace the tube, check the tyre and rim tape for what caused it, and set the correct pressure so it doesn't happen again on the ride home.
Front $60.50 · rear $71.50 · fat tyre from $71.50, tube included
My e-bike won't turn on, or it cuts out while I ride
The diagnostic checks the connectors, the wiring and the controller and tells you which one it is before you spend anything. Note we do not work on batteries themselves.
Electric Check Up $60.50, about 30 minutes
There's an error code on my display
We read the code off the display, trace it through the motor, controller and wiring, and give you a written report with the cause and what it costs to fix.
Electric Check Up $60.50, about 30 minutes
My motor is silent, weak or making a noise
We test power delivery, the mount and the drive engagement. Plenty of weak motors are a sensor or a connector. If the unit itself has failed, we quote the replacement before starting.
Electric Check Up $60.50 · motor replacement labour $165.00
My wheel wobbles or a spoke has snapped
We true the wheel back into shape and replace broken spokes. A wheel left buckled wears the brake and the tyre unevenly, so it is worth doing early.
Wheel alignment $60.50 · broken spokes from $27.50
My chain slips, grinds or has gone rusty
We clean and lubricate the drivetrain and measure the chain for wear. A worn chain that keeps running will take the cassette with it, which costs a lot more.
Included in the General Check $174.90 · parts quoted separately
It hasn't been serviced in a year and I don't know where to start
The General Check is a full tune-up: brakes, gears, safety inspection, full clean and lubrication, plus the e-bike system if your bike has one.
General Check $174.90, about 1 hour

Bike repair FAQs.
How much does a bike service cost in Sydney?
At Phalcon Bikes, a General Check (brakes, gears, safety check, full clean) is $174.90. An Electric Check Up for e-bikes is $60.50. Individual repairs start from $16.50 for a brake adjustment and $60.50 for a flat tyre. Parts are quoted separately before we start, no surprises.
How much does an e-bike service cost in Sydney?
An Electric Check Up (motor and controller diagnostic) is $60.50 and takes 30 minutes. A General Check covering the full bike plus e-bike system is $174.90. Motor replacement labour is $165.00, with parts quoted separately upfront.
Do you service e-bikes?
Yes. E-bike servicing and e-bike repair are what the workshop is built around. We service and repair e-bikes at 146 Cleveland Street, Chippendale, Sydney: motor, controller, display and wiring, plus the usual brakes, gears and wheels. Start with an Electric Check Up ($60.50) and we'll find the fault and quote any work before we begin. The one exception is batteries, which we do not service, sell or replace.
Do you provide e-bike electrical diagnostics?
Yes. The Electric Check Up ($60.50, about 30 minutes, labour only) is a full e-bike electrical diagnostic. We read the error code off the display, test the motor and its power delivery, inspect the motor mount and drive engagement, and check the controller, display, wiring, connectors and sensors. You get a written report naming the cause and what the repair costs, and nothing is repaired until you approve it. Batteries, including cells, BMS and rebuilds, are outside what we do.
What's the difference between an Electric Check Up and a General Check?
The Electric Check Up ($60.50, 30 min) is an e-bike-only diagnostic: it reads error codes, inspects the motor, controller and wiring, and gives you a written report. The General Check ($174.90, 1 hour) is a full service for any bike: brakes, gears, safety inspection, full clean, and an e-bike system check if applicable.
How long does a bike service take?
A General Check takes approximately 1 hour. An Electric Check Up takes 30 minutes. For flat tyres and minor repairs, 30-60 minutes. We can often do same-day work, call ahead or check availability online.
Do I need to book or can I walk in?
Both work. We recommend booking online to lock in your preferred time, but walk-ins are always welcome. We're open 7 days 10am-6pm at 146 Cleveland Street, Chippendale.
My e-bike shows an error code. What does that mean?
Error codes vary by system but usually indicate a motor, sensor, or communication fault. The Electric Check Up ($60.50) reads the code and identifies the cause, then we quote any repair before we start.
Where is Phalcon Bikes located?
Phalcon Bikes is at Shop 1, 146 Cleveland Street, Chippendale NSW 2008, on the corner of Cleveland Street and City Road in inner Sydney. We are open 7 days, 10am to 6pm, and the phone is 0410 937 681. It is about a 10 minute walk from Central Station and a few minutes from the University of Sydney and UTS. Walk-ins are welcome.
Is there a bike repair shop near me in Sydney city?
We are at Shop 1, 146 Cleveland Street, Chippendale, on the corner of Cleveland Street and City Road. It is a short walk from Central Station and an easy ride from Surry Hills, Redfern, Newtown, Darlington, Glebe, Ultimo, Waterloo and the CBD. Open 7 days, 10am-6pm, walk-ins welcome.
How much is a bike tune-up in Sydney?
A full tune-up at Phalcon Bikes is the General Check at $174.90: brakes, gears and indexing, safety inspection, full clean and lubrication, tyre pressures, plus the e-bike system check if your bike is electric. It takes about an hour. Parts, if anything needs replacing, are quoted and approved before we start.
Do you fix flat tyres and punctures?
Yes, and the tube is included in the price. A front flat is $60.50 and a rear is $71.50 on a regular bike; fat-tyre bikes are $71.50 front and $93.50 rear. Front wheels take about 30 minutes, rear wheels up to an hour. We also check what caused the puncture so it doesn't happen again on the way home.
Do you do same-day bike repair?
Often, yes. Flat tyres, brake adjustments and gear adjustments are 15 to 60 minutes and we can usually fit them in on the day. Call 0410 937 681 before you come in and we'll tell you honestly whether the workshop can take it today.
How long will my bike take? Can I wait for it?
An Electric Check Up is about 30 minutes and a General Check about an hour. Individual repairs run from 10 minutes for a brake cable to an hour for a rear wheel or a motor swap. For the shorter jobs you are welcome to wait; for a full service most people drop the bike off and we let them know when it is ready.
What types of bikes do you service? Do you only do e-bikes?
We service every kind of bike: road, mountain, commuter and hybrid, cargo and family bikes, kids' bikes, folding bikes and fat-tyre bikes, as well as electric bikes. The e-bike electrical work is our specialty, but the majority of what comes through the workshop is ordinary bikes needing brakes, gears, wheels and tune-ups.
Can you service a bike I didn't buy from you?
Yes. Most bikes we work on were bought somewhere else, including bikes bought online that arrived in a box. We service and safety check them the same way, and we will tell you upfront if something is beyond what we can source parts for.
Do you service kids' bikes?
Yes. Kids' bikes, school bikes and bikes with a child seat fitted are all welcome. Brakes and the safety inspection are the parts that matter most on a kid's bike, and both are covered in the General Check.
Can I get a quote before additional repairs?
Yes, always. Nothing beyond the service you booked gets done without your approval. If we open the bike up and find something else, we stop, call you with what it is and what it costs, and only carry on once you say yes. Parts are quoted separately from labour. If you don't know what the bike needs in the first place, Book Your Quote is free: we assess the whole bike, give you a written quote and you are free to take it away.
Do I pay before or after the work?
After. Booking online holds a time and takes no payment, and this site collects no card details. You pay in the shop once the work you approved is done. If we find something unexpected mid-service we stop and call you before doing anything that costs more.
Is your repair work guaranteed? Do you offer a warranty?
We do not sell a separate paid warranty on labour. Our services come with the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law: work provided with due care and skill and fit for the purpose agreed. If something isn't right after a service, bring the bike back and we will look at it. The full terms are on our terms page.
Do you assemble bikes bought online?
Yes. Flat-packed bikes and e-bikes bought online get assembled, adjusted and safety checked before you ride them, which on an online e-bike also means checking the wiring and connectors are seated properly.
Do you replace or sell e-bike batteries?
No. We do not replace, sell or service e-bike batteries, including cells, BMS and rebuilds. We diagnose everything else on the electrical side, motor, controller, display, wiring and connectors, and if the battery turns out to be the fault we will tell you so you are not paying to chase it here. Sourcing a battery is something you would do through the manufacturer or a battery specialist.
What bike brands do you service?
We do the mechanical work (brakes, gears, wheels and drivetrain) on most bikes. For e-bikes we work with selected brands: NCM, Flight Risk, Toland, Fat Boy, SmartMotion, Fat Fish, Ampd Bros, Zoomo, and unbranded fat-tyre bikes. The electrical side depends on the component, and some parts may need to be purchased by you. Not listed? Contact the shop and we'll let you know if we can help.
